Edmonia Lewis Paid Tribute In Google Doodle

Black History Month started with the art of Edmonia Lewis honored in Google Doodle.

Edmonia Lewis is considered to be the first African-American woman to be fully recognized as a fine arts sculptor.

“I really wanted to show her in the process of sculpting, emphasizing her small stature (she was only four feet tall!) and one of her most famous pieces, ‘The Death of Cleopatra,’” Diao, the author of the Doodle said.

Edmonia Lewis was dedicated to representing African-American and Native-American heritage, which was a part of her own.

The life and work of Edmonia Lewis show that Black power is not just about aggression and physical resistance but also about dignity and patience.
