Two Black Men Take An Initiative To Help The Homeless in Florida

“Cleanliness is a fundamental need. We actually see it as basic human right….” Carlos Miller and Chris Bentley describe their motivation

Two long time friends Chris Bentley and Carlos Miller have come up with a project to health homeless people in Florida stay clean. The two Black men who have been friends since middle school are the founders of Live FRESH (Feeling Revitalized Encourages Sustainable Happiness) PBC.

The duo came up with a mobile shower facility equipped with six private showers. The air conditioned trailer also has a changing room. This they said will assist the homeless population of the state to have the right to a clean healthy life.

Responding to why they chose to execute this project, they said: “For us, that’s where dignity and self-respect starts … with the ability to stay clean and be presentable,” says Bentley. “Cleanliness is a fundamental need. We actually see it as basic human right and because the homeless population can be hard to reach, we knew we would have to come to them and make ourselves available in areas they could easily reach,” The Palm Beach Post reports.

The Live FRESH organization was initially set up with a $100,000 grant from Impact the Palm Beaches and also some donations from various organizations. According to the Post, about 250 people have participated in the program since its inception on March 31st. Each of the participants was given a set personal hygiene products which included towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner and oral hygiene products.

The two Black men have also entered into a partnership with Genesis Community Health Center which will provide the homeless with different medical screening including HIV counseling and testing.
African-Americans are the ones to help themselves since the government doesn’t seem to be doing so much to assist them. These two Black men deserve applauds for taking a step to bring dignity and respect to the less privileged. If the American government should care about equality and social justices as these Black men do, things would be better.
