The recently deceased magnificent singer didn’t want to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
As thousands of fans across the America and the whole world honor the life of Prince, who passed away suddenly on Thursday, many of those who flocked to the Hollywood Boulevard’s Walk of Fame on the day after his death were astonished not to find an official star dedicated to the iconic Purple Rain musician.
According The Wrap, the recording megastar rejected the offer to have his own star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame twice.
The inquiries about Minneapolis favorite son have reached the producers of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, who on Friday confirmed in a Facebook post that indeed the legendary singer declined to have a star dedicated to him.
“We have been receiving many inquiries regarding the issue of Prince not having a Walk of Fame star,” The Hollywood Walk of Fame shared via Facebook. “Prince was approached on two occasions about the possibility of being nominated for a star and he stated that the timing was not right.”
There is no question about the influential and elusive artist’s choice not be entangled with Hollywood’s fame madness, given the industry’s prevalent diversity problems and racial discrimination.
Instead of succumbing to the meaningless lustrous life of fame and money, Prince who is described by many as “the secret philanthropist,” dedicated his life to the issues of the humanity – to those people who needed a voice and inspiration in America, especially in the African-American communities.
As tributes from many black artists, honoring Prince’s legacy, flood the internet and media, it is very important to ask all these celebrities, who claim they were inspired by the legend, what they have done for the society to prove it.
Prince is the kind of artist, whose beliefs and values should be emulated by many black celebrities today.
May his soul Rest in Peace.
