Historic Black School Building In Virginia Vandalized With Racist Signs

Some unidentified racist ridiculed the tireless effort by local students to restore the Ashburn Colored School by inscribing some racially derogatory words and racist signs on it.

The 1892 single-room Ashburn Colored School situated in the northern part of Virginia was badly disfigured with racist signs during the weekend. The school was instituted to educate people of color who lived in the northern part of Virginia some 30 years after the end of the civil war in the Confederacy capital.

Some local students for the past 2 years have made efforts to transform the single-room schoolhouse into a museum, CNN reports.

The 2-year effort by the concerned local students was marred by hooligans who spray-painted racist signs and wrote “White Power” on the structure. The schoolhouse was disfigured by drawings of genitals and racist words.

Some $25,000 out of a $100,000 target has been raised as funds to put up an educational museum which will highlight the history of racial segregation in the education system.

“We are very sad to report that there was vandalism at the Old School last night. If you have any information about this incident, please contact the Sheriff’s Department,” the Ashburn Old School Rehabilitation Facebook page posted. The post further included that “While we are heartbroken about this senseless act, please know that our students, volunteers, and community will work even harder to complete the dream of renovating the Ashburn Colored School.”

A $1000 reward has been announced for the one who will be able to give reliable information about the perpetrators of the crime which will lead to their arrest.

Loudoun County Sheriff, Mike Chapman has condemned the act by saying that “The vandalism to the Ashburn Old School is reprehensible and will not be tolerated here.”

White supremacy is blatant! Their racist behavior seems to have taken over their minds. Their hatred for Black people is exhibited in every aspect of the human society. Those responsible, when caught, must face the law. Racism isn’t something we should condone because it has the tendency of destroying our nation.
