Obligatory Bias Training To Be Provided To FBI, DEA, U.S. Attorneys

“Today’s announcement is an important step in our ongoing efforts to promote fairness, eliminate bias and build the stronger, safer, more just society that all Americans deserve,” Attorney General Loretta Lynch said.

In a few weeks, the Department of Justice is embarking on a training exercise to reduce the racial disparity seen in police arrests and jury sentences. If this would solve the issue at hand, we would hold our hands to our chest and let them do what “seems best”.

For now, numerous training courses given to law enforcers have not changed the growing rate of police brutality, police killings of mostly people of color and racial discrimination in the court of law. How then would training the FBI, DEA and U.S. Attorneys be any different?

Facts tell us that this  old method  doesn’t work, and so there has to be a more effective and stronger measure that would put the officers on their heels to do what is rightly expected of them: “enforcing the law and defending the interests of the United States; ensuring public safety against foreign and domestic threats; providing Federal leadership in preventing and controlling crime; punishing those guilty of unlawful behavior; and ensuring fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans,” as a DOJ statement dated 2012 stipulates.

In view of this, officials, who indulge themselves in excessive use of force, brutality, arresting and shooting without probable cause, should be given severe punishment in the form of life imprisonment or “a life for a life” sentence; since they value their lives much more, they would be careful in how they carry out their duties and would not be biased. Also, we should stop giving officers, who are under investigation, paid leaves. They must suffer for their actions and not rest on a beach. In case the real effort is made, there would be the drastic reduction in police brutality and racial disparity in the judicial system and the justice system in general will turn fair and impartial.
