History Professor Says A Peaceful World Is One Without Whiteness

A black history professor James Harrison gave a lecture titled “Imagine A World Without Whiteness” for the college’s Whiteness History Month.

Professor James Harrison, in his lecture which was held on Monday April 4 at the Portland Community College, pointed out that it is impossible to have peace in the U.S. as long as Whiteness exists.

He developed his speech from a song “Imagine” written by the legend John Lennon. “Imagine everyone living life in peace,” he said, giving his own interpretation to these words “And how do we get to that good world is the question — a world without conflict.” Professor Harrison said “to me, my interpretation of these words is it would be a world, or U.S., without whiteness, in terms of the power structure.

The community college professor said that the word whiteness is a class to which white people belong – A social category to which people share similar traits, such as racial superiority over others.

He further noted that, with the help of individuals taking actions, whiteness or white privilege can be demolished in the country. “Yes, we can, because it’s happened before,” he added. Professor Harrison justified his statement by highlighting a study which shows that white people will no longer be a majority in the United States by 2040 or 2050.

Intelligent professor James Harrison has a realistic point of view on American system. We should pay attention to his words and think about the ways of elimination absolute power of “whiteness”.
