Black Celebrities: Jada Pinkett Smith’s “Careers In Entertainment” To Help Youth
Black celebrities continue to influence the entertainment industry with their talent and industriousness.
Jada Pinkett Smith, the wife of the renowned Black movie star, Will Smith is set to launch a program designed to help underprivileged youth. The program dubbed, “Careers In Entertainment” seeks to tour the country as it brings youth who have a passion for the entertainment industry face-to-face with professionals to advice and direct them.
Speaking about the project with Huffington Post, Smith said, “The Careers in Entertainment Tours is a tour that launched [last] Wednesday, where we’ll have our first 400 students be able to speak to a panelist of professionals, [who] ask questions and talk about their particular area of expertise in the industry.”
The first destination of the tour was in Brooklyn. The program saw hundreds of youth in attendance. Participants of the Brooklyn session of the program went there with higher expectations.
Smith further stated that “[It’s] an engine for change in our industry, and a means of closing the gap between dreams and the tools necessary to achieve them.”
The wife of the popular Black actor mentioned that her decision for choosing young people is because by influencing the youth, an entire generation is subsequently influenced. Smith seeks to bring the young and underserved youth of America much closer to their dream of getting into the entertainment industry.
Smith further said that “Young people will be part of the solution because I think how young people see the world is naturally more inclusive. I think that the scope is going to change because of how you see their world. It’s very different than how we have been brought up to see our world, and how we see it now.”
