Baltimore City Pays $87K To Officer Involved In Freddie Gray’s Death

The Baltimore City Board is set to pay a police officer, Caesar Goodson, for killing 25-year-old Freddie Gray.

Freddie Gray died due to injuries sustained to his spinal cord while in the police van, which Officer Goodson drove.

The 46-year-old Officer Caesar Goodson Jr., involved in the death of Freddie Gray, was recently acquitted of all charges, including charges with murder, manslaughter, reckless endangerment, false arrest by Circuit Judge Barry Williams. Goodson and other officers, who beat Gray and gave him a “rough-ride” while in the police van, were suspended without pay since May 2015.

The judicial system did not only let Goodson and his other police assassins go scot-free, but also will pay them severance money. Since Goodson has been acquitted of all murder charges, he is to receive a sum of $87,000 in pay back on Wednesday, July 13.

Freddy Gray didn’t die by committing suicide, so someone must be responsible for his death. There should be a retrial and withdrawal of benefits. Those officers should be punished for their crime, but will all that be possible if we have a broken system of justice? When will Black lives matter in our communities? The recent tragedy of police killing four African-American within a week shows that America is centuries away from being a unified America.
