Vacation Ends For President Obama As He Prepares to Visit Baton Rouge After Floods

“The president is mindful of the impact that his travel has on first responders and wants to ensure that his presence does not interfere with ongoing recovery efforts,” Press Secretary Josh Earnest states.

After more than a week since the city of Louisiana was hit with a record-breaking flood which claimed more than 12 lives, ravaged 20 parishes and rendered some 60,000 homeless, the President of the United States announced to tour the area on Tuesday in order to familiarize himself with the extent of the damage.

It seems the memory of the president’s two weeks of vacation on the Massachusetts island of Martha’s Vineyard wouldn’t last long as expected. He has to tackle his first assignment in a rather unfortunate way.

According to reports from the White House, the President will meet with the local officials to ascertain the extent of damage caused by the flood and also know the about the steps taken so far to tackle the issue. He is also expected to discuss the steps taken by the federal government to aid the victims and help restore the community.

The United State’s President has recently come under major scorn for not choosing the lives of his countrymen over his relaxation. However, Josh Earnest, the Press secretary was quick to defend the Presidency by issuing a statement which states that “The president is mindful of the impact that his travel has on first responders and wants to ensure that his presence does not interfere with ongoing recovery efforts.”

It is quite interesting how the president of the U.S.A wasn’t willing to cut short his vacation to attend to his people but on the other hand, would have quickly responded to issues of other countries.

It is obvious that his later trip to Baton Rouge was to an official response; in his capacity as the first gentleman of the land. I am of the view that, if he was really interested in the welfare of the people of Louisiana, he would have been there when they needed him most.

Nonetheless, Mr. President seems to be exhibiting the characteristics of a true democrat; acting like the “friend of Blacks” but in actual sense, they don’t really care about them.
