13-Y-O Teen Severely Harmed In Shooting

Zarriel Trotter of Circle Rock Charter School, Chicago, apparently took part in an anti-violence video “Our Black Boys,” a PSA video produced by ‘Black is Human’ group, suffered severe injuries from a stray gunshot, last Friday.

In the video Zarriel said: “I don’t want to live in a community where…people keep on getting shot, people keep on getting killed.”

The young teen got entangled in the center of a gun fight on Friday evening at West Jackson Boulevard, on block 5500.

Speaking to reporters, police said that the 13-year-old was hit in the lower part of his back by a stray bullet. He was returning home from a basketball game with his friends, a family member explained.

Trotter was conveyed to the hospital in a very critical condition – without a surgery he could have lost his life.

“It’s devastating when you see your students hurt, they’re our kids, too,” Elizabeth Jamison-Dunn, principal of Circle Rock Charter School, commented in an interview with the Sun-Times.
