Officer Lee said that he “feared for his life” when he shot and killed Antronie Scott in a parking lot.
On Thursday, an unarmed black man identified as Antronie Scott was shot and killed by Officer John Lee of San Antonio Police Department, Texas.
An investigation has concluded that Scott was unarmed and had a cell phone before he was shot by Officer Lee, who said he mistook the cellphone for a weapon.
According to San Antonio’s police chief, William McManus, Scott was wanted for felony warrants of possession a firearm and for narcotics. Therefore, he was being followed by the police.
Scott was pulled over as he drove into a parking lot. He got out of the car quickly and spun toward Officer Lee who shot him almost immediately claiming “he feared for his life”.
Protesters, however, insist that the shooting was unwarranted and similar to numerous other incidents of police brutality in recent months.
Chief McManus said that thorough investigation would be conducted with respect to the shooting. He also said that Officer Lee, a nearly 11-year veteran of the force, has been placed on administrative duty.
