Mom Sues School After Her 6-Year-Old Child Was Handcuffed For Taking Candy

“She is now afraid of the dark and terrified of anyone wearing a police uniform,” mother of 6-year-old Madisyn Moore describes daughter’s trauma following the incident.

On Thursday, the Chicago Public Schools was sued by Marlena Wordlow, for what she describes as an unlawful arrest and abuse of her 6-year-old daughter. Wordlow claims her 6-year-old daughter was handcuffed and put under stairs for taking candy off the teacher’s table, WLS reports.

According to WLS, the unfortunate incident occurred in March at the Fernwood Elementary. Madisyn Moore was pulled out of class for allegedly taking a candy from the teacher’s desk, Wordlow said. The security guard of the school the handcuffed her and placed her under dark stairs and left the little Black girl there alone.

It is yet unclear how long Moore was kept under the stairs but her mother said the girl was later pulled out sweating and she still had her jacket on although it was warmer outside.

According to reports by the New York Daily Times, Moore’s mom said the security guard explained that he wanted to teach the little Black girl a lesson. He said, “I’m teaching her a [f–king] lesson. She took a piece of candy and I handcuffed her under the stairs.”

Moore was “crying, sweating and visibly scared and distraught,” the lawsuit indicated.

Although the security guard had since been fired by the CPS, it is still unclear why he hasn’t faced any prosecution yet. Moore’s aggrieved mom said neither the school nor the police have taken the matter up hence, her search for justice.

According to a report by WLS, Madisyn Moore has since been taken out of the school by her mom and enrolled in a different school.

It is unbelievable how actually heartless these racists can be. How can a fully grown man take pleasure in torturing a toddler who barely knows right from wrong? The mere fact that she is a colored skin means she deserves any form o inhuman treatment? The security guard must be prosecuted together with all those involved. We must not tolerate any kind of racism.
