New York Daily News reported that Presidential aspirant Ted Cruz’s appointment to speak to Bronx Lighthouse Preparatory Academy students had to be cancelled because students made it clear in their letter to the principal of the school, stating that his views were outrightly different from theirs.
“A group of students will be leaving during 4th period, as (an) act of civil disobedience in regards to the arrival of Ted Cruz to BLCPA,” the letter said. “We have all considered the consequences of our actions and are willing to accept them.”
“The presence of Ted Cruz and the ideas he stands for are offensive,” it continued. “His views are against ours and are actively working to harm us, our community, and the people we love.”
Cruz is considered misogynistic, homophobic and a racist, according to the students of Lighthouse College Preparatory Academy. They also consider his actions and deeds are directly opposite to what they stand for because most of the students are immigrants or come from immigrant background, and Cruz is against such citizens.
Alix Duggins, the Principal of the school heeded to the students’ plea and cancelled the visit.
