October 22nd- March Against Police Brutality

Source

Saturday, October 22nd-
National Day of Action Against Police Brutality, Repression, and the Criminalization of a Generation.

On October 22nd we hope to come together as a Houston community, as individuals and organizations dedicated to the same cause of a city safe from abuse by the very agency whose purpose (supposedly) is to protect us. This day of action is to bring together the people of Houston who believe that our youth should not have to live in fear of militarized and trigger-happy police.

This O22 we will stand up against police brutality of black and brown people, and police brutality of activists for environmental and indigenous justice. We will call attention to the brutality committed by the police in the name of ‘law enforcement’ and ‘border control’ against indigenous people and immigrants, and the brutality committed in the name of the ‘drug war’, which targets people of color. We also want to bring attention to the legal murders committed by the state of Texas in it’s enforcement of the death penalty and to the problem of mass incarceration nationwide (While the US has only 5 % of the world’s population, it has 25% of the world’s prisoners).

Make no mistake, our police officers nation-wide have already turned into soldiers for the state. The equipment they use, from the sniper rifles to the tear gas, do not mimic that of the military. IT IS THE SAME as that of the military.

On this day of resistance we hope to bring together all the efforts against police brutality in all its many forms into cohesion. We hope to build connections with each other as we develop a stronger community against the misuse of power that the Houston Police Department has been guilty of for decades.

Join us before the march for all day teachs in (https://www.facebook.com/events/357084584630084/) at Solidarity Houston.

When our community is under attack, what do we do? STAND UP, FIGHT BACK!!
