Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church (WABC) will host a day of complimentary services, King reflections and entertainment catering to its surrounding community and the Greater Third Ward Area. In partnership with various local organizations and businesses, this event will offer practical services to individuals and families in the community. Services offered will include medical screenings, vaccinations, and a supply giveaway for school-aged children. Additionally, visitors will be able to attend various presentations and seminars emphasizing mental health awareness, crime, safety and drug awareness, as well as be entertained by local bands, enjoy dramatic poetry readings, dancing, children’s activities and some of the best food Houston has to offer. The MLK, Jr. Community Day will take place on Monday, January 16, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church campus. This special day of recognition and remembrance is an important component of Wheeler Avenue’s desire to minister to the community where it resides. This event will, therefore, not only celebrate and commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., but it will also enrich the lives of the people who live and work in the community. Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church has been ministering to and serving the Third Ward Community of Houston since 1962, as a worshiping, witnessing and welcoming congregation committed to Christian education, local outreach and discipleship, and international missions.
