In recognition of Women’s History Month, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum will host “ Black Women In Sports” featuring a discussion with honored guest Claire Smith and moderator Dr. Rebecca Davis, Univeristiy of Missouri-Kansas City.
Smith will discuss her over 30 year career as an award winning sports journalist and editor. She was recently selected as the 2017 Spink Award winner by the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWA), for “meritorious contributions to baseball writing.” She is the first female writer so honored for this prestigious award. The National Baseball Hall of Fame describes Smith as “a pioneer within the baseball community as one of the first women to cover a major league baseball beat extensively and as an influential voice among African-American writers.”
The program is free with your paid admission to the museum. To reserve a seat or for progam questions, please call 816-221-1920 or contact us at [email protected]
