FBI’s latest hate crime report shows a significant decrease in number of hate crimes compared to the previous years, because police departments don't report about it.
As the level of crimes and violence increase in almost every state in U.S., there is an utmost need for an accurate statistics of all crimes motivated by either race, religion, sexual orientation or other prejudices. Unfortunately, law enforcers mostly don’t report such crimes, they prefer to cover it up.
The FBI’s November Hate Crime Report in 2014 appeared to be 8 percent less than the previous year. Officials from the Justice Department’s data tallying agency and Bureau of Justice Statistics however said that the FBI’s figures were inaccurate and misleading.
The Associated Press reported that over 2,700 law enforcement departments in the country refused to report hate crimes between 2009 and 2014. About 64 percent of Mississippi departments failed to submit data, between those years, on any “criminal offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by an offender’s bias against a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, or gender identity.”
How can the country heal itself from racism and injustice if there’s no real data to show the trend of hate crime levels and police violence?
The falling number of hate crimes is either a result of cops not reporting crimes they commit or the FBI manipulating on the results to show a sign of improvement in fighting against hate in the country. In fact none of them are really interested in fighting hate, they would rather promote it as we see through their actions.
