"I have been kept in a state of death for the last 45 years and 8 months, with your help, I'm rising from the steel and concrete coffins in which I've been held," Heidelberg wrote last year in a letter put out on the attorney’s website, who is helping him to gain freedom.

In December 1970, Cleve Heidelberg, a 27-year-old Black man was accused and convicted of killing a cop. From Heidelberg's words, on the evening of May 26, 1970, he was hanging out in a club in his neighbourhood in Peoria, Illinois. One of his friends, Lester Mason asked him if he could borrow Cleve's car. Heidelberg gave him the car and spent the rest of the evening at an after-hours spot called Dimps. Mason later turned out and said that his car is crashed nearby.

Heidelberg was on his way to get his vehicle when he walked into a police stakeout. Police officers wrestled him to the ground, let their dogs loose on him and beat him so brutally they broke a disc in his spinal cord, which caused permanent nerve damage.
Heidelberg had no idea that a Sheriff’s Deputy Raymond Ezpinoza had been shot and killed while responding to an armed robbery at a movie theatre earlier that night. The shooter fled after a car chase which ended up in him crashing the car in a residential area.

The car, a blue Chevy belonged to Heidelberg, and he was charged with Ezpinoza’s murder.
During the trial, several black witnesses appeared in court to validate Heidelberg’s alibi, but one of the prosecutors, John Riddle urged the jurors to just "look" at them: "Do they even look credible or believable?" he asked. While speaking to an all-white jury about the prosecution’s white witnesses, most of whom were law enforcement officers, Riddle said, "I think you can learn from looking at them and listening to them that they are obviously a reliable group." Heidelberg was convicted of murder and sent to prison.

In 1971, Heidelberg received an obscure note from a man who had just been sent in the same prison. The note promised Heidelberg information that would "clear up the error made." It was the first time he heard from James Clark, who would go on to sign a confession to the murder of which Heidelberg was convicted. Clark kept to his word and confessed that it was he who shot Ezpinoza. He borrowed Heidelberg’s car from Mason, and he claimed he feared for his life when he saw Ezpinoza running toward him, writing in a 1971 affidavit, "It was kill or be killed."

Heidelberg’s public defender did what he could to use Clark’s confession to annul the conviction, but the court agreed with the state that it should be snubbed.Last year, a Chicago-based criminal defense lawyer Andre Hale took on the case because he simply didn’t believe a guilty man would be so quick to return to the scene of his own crime. Marcella Teplitz, a former Peoria police detective who is now a private investigator, joined Hale in unearthing a wealth of compelling information, including FBI reports which showed that Heidelberg’s fingerprints were not found on the weapon and the sheriff’s department may have hidden or destroyed evidence during the trial.

Hale presented all the information he found to Judge Albert Purham Jr., at the Illinois Attorney General’s office. The office is now tasked with investigating and providing a written opinion. Judge Purham also agreed to Hale’s petition for a post-conviction proceeding which allows him to bring in new exonerating evidence in the meantime.

If Heidelberg were to gain freedom, he would likely to be the longest wrongfully convicted person in American history. This case has some similarities with the Glenn Ford case, where Ford spent almost 3 decades on death row after he was wrongfully convicted by the white jury. The justice system has to really work hard to get rid of such cases, whereby a Black man isn’t put through a fair trial before conviction.

A video footage which has gone viral on social media shows a white police officer pressing a young Black woman up against a police cruiser.

The police department of Washington D.C. is currently investigating an incidence involving one of their officers. According to the shocking footage posted by a twitter user, @MacandCheeks on Monday, an unidentified male police officer is seen pressing a Black woman up against a parked police SUV.

It was unclear what the conversation was about but the officer seemed to be interrogating the Black woman while she was being pressed up against the car, with her feet dangling in the air. At that same time, the woman could be heard telling the officer and his female counterpart that she works nearby.

According to the eyewitness, the police gripped a hold of the woman without any initial interactions. The incident happened at an intersection near the Howard University were the police had parked their cruiser.

Moreover, the Black woman wasn’t searched or arrested by the two officers after the unfortunate confrontation.

Officer Sean Hickman, spokesman for the Washington D.C. police department disclosed that the officers in the footage have been identified as members of the 4th District, the Daily News reports. But the spokesman refused to make their identities known.

The D.C. Police Department further posted on twitter saying; “We’ve been aware of this video and contacted their commanding officer as we investigate this matter.”

The reason most officers seems to be repeating the same irresponsible act over and over again is the fact that, there isn’t any punishment for such misconducts. This is the reason they confidently abuse Black people because they know they can easily get away with it.

This act is totally unacceptable and must be completely eliminated from our society. Is just for the fact that she is Black; she deserves to be molested by the police without any provocation? And what even mandated the excessive force applied by the officer on this harmless Black woman? It is quite obvious that the series of police brutalities isn’t a coincidence. It is racism being displayed in the police service. We must speak-up against these unwarranted brutalities.

Former vice president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 3, Lt. Victor Gearhart landed himself in trouble after making controversial comments about Black Lives Matters demonstrators.

A high-ranking official in the Baltimore Police Department has been suspended following a derogatory comment he made concerning BLM protesters in an email he sent to some officials of the departments.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Lt. Victor Gearhart was suspended by Police Commander Kevin Davis on Monday after he referred to protesters at the Maryland Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P) conference as ‘thugs.’

Gearhart has in the past faced disciplinary actions for similar irresponsible comments. In his email, he wrote: “By now you have seen that the THUGS from BLM and other similar groups have attempted to disrupt the state FOP Convention being held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel,” the email read. “Well, today was check-in day with activities spread over the next 3 days so expect more bad behavior from the THUGS OF BALTIMORE.” He further added that “On the bright side maybe they will stop killing each other while they are protesting us.

T.J. Smith, the spokesman for Baltimore police was quick to react to Gearhart’s careless comment by stating that “This is not representative of the agency and an internal investigation has been launched regarding this. Not only was the Police Commissioner outraged, but so were a number of other officers who complained about the email."

The protest at the Maryland F.O.P. conference saw the arrest of some 12 demonstrators. Arrested protesters were charged with trespassing offenses after they chained themselves to an escalator inside the Hyatt, The Baltimore Sun reports.

About 60 people turned up for the demonstration. Many were cited in T-shirts with the inscription, ‘Justice 4 Korryn Gaines.’ 23-year-old Gaines was shot dead by a Baltimore County police officer on August 1st after a seven-hour face-off. Her 5-year-old son was also shot in the process.

Ralikh Hayes, the organizer of the protest requested for the break-up of the police union’s 79 chapters statewide, the Sun reports. He further explained the aim of the demonstration by saying, “Our vision is a world where safety and security are not dependent on the enforcers of the state but rather where all people have access to quality food, shelter, health care and education and where racial, economic and gender equality flourish.”

This is a disgrace to the entire Baltimore Police Service. How come such a racist held a high-ranking position in the service? No wonder the police are always quick to shoot Black people. The bigotry unleashed on Black people is by law enforcement is as a result of their erroneous perception about Blacks. Officers such as Gearhart do not deserve to hold any public position because it is obvious he will always be baize in his judgment.

“I’m glad it’s all done. I’m pleased with the outcome,” 26-year-old Ballinger, the mother of the Gurley’s young daughter expressed her satisfaction with the outcome.

According to the Daily News, the city of New York has been demanded to make a cash settlement of over $4million to the family of Akai Gurley, the unarmed Black man who was wrongfully shot to death by an NYPD cop in November 2014.

The money is to be contributed by the city, the New York City Housing Authorities (NYCHA) and the ex-officer who killed innocent Gurley. Peter Liang, the ex-cop who shot the unarmed Black man will pay an amount of $25000 to Kimberly Ballinger, the mother of Gurley’s daughter. The NYCHA will also contribute $400,000 whiles the city pays $4.1 million.

The cash settlement is to be put in a fund for Akaila, Gurley’s daughter which can only be accessed through a court approval. This will be the condition until little Akaila turns 18. On the other hand, the money will be invested on behalf of the Gurley’s daughter that will yield an estimated amount of about $10 million throughout her lifetime.

26-year-old Ballinger expressed her contentment over the court ruling by saying; “I’m glad it’s all done. I’m pleased with the outcome,” The News Monday reports.

Meanwhile, Peter Liang and the other colleague, Shaun Landau who was with him at the time of the incident have both been charged with negligence and recklessness. Also, the NYCHA was also blamed for not repairing a light bulb in the stairwell where the Black man was shot.

28-year-old Akai Gurley who prior to his untimely death was a resident of the Louis Pink Houses situated in east New York was shot dead by an officer without any provocation, on November 20, 2014. Gurley had gone to the visit Melissa Butler who lived on the seventh-floor and both have agreed to go out together. The duo decided to use the stairs because the elevator wasn’t functioning at that time. Then, Liang who was on a patrol in the building with Landau had his gun out with his finger on the trigger. Liang claimed he mistakenly fired the gun which struck Gurley in the chest, killing him in the process. The lights of the stairwell were faulty at the time, making the area dark.

At least, justice has been served Gurley’s family. But again, all these avoidable occurrences turn to drain the national coffers. At the end, it is the taxpayer’s money the city is going to use to compensate the family. There is a need for a system which will hold the culprits solely responsible for their actions.

“You are taking these parents’ tax dollars and using it to hurt their children,” Dr. Joan Evelyn Duvall-Flynn, the president of the Pennsylvania Conference of NAACP said, describing racism in charter schools.

At the national convention in Cincinnati, a resolution was passed by the NAACP for the interdiction of privately owned charter schools. The nation’s oldest civil rights organization outlined some factors necessitating their demand for such schools to be ban.
The NAACP mentioned that the charter schools have rather increased segregation in our public schools. The civil rights organization disclosed that the public schools harbor mostly African-American students and people of low-income due to its relatively cheaper cost. On the other hand, the charter schools are usually the place for the Whites.

Dr. Joan Evelyn Duvall-Flynn describing the situation said, “We also noticed over the years that charter schools were leading to the re-segregation of the schools. In that re-segregation process, they were re-creating the white supremacy model.” Citing Chester Pennsylvania, as an example, she added; “The (Chester) school district is paying the charter school millions of dollars, and the public schools were going without physics, libraries. None of that is available because of the funding.”

Furthermore, the NAACP stated that there isn’t any checking mechanism in place to oversee the affairs of the charter schools. This situation they said, is leading to heavy mismanagement of public funds. Moreover, student’s safety isn’t assured since there isn’t any system in place to watch over their activities. According to the leader of the NAACP, billions of taxpayers’ monies are missing and going unaccounted due to the existence of charter schools.

Also, during the conference, it came to light the level of inequity and racism in Charter Schools. The Charter Schools are predominantly dominated by whites. DeJarnatt said, “There are a number of charter schools that are over 70 percent white,” and she cited this example of the Philadelphian state; a state that is occupied by 35% of white people. This clearly shows that the charter schools are unfriendly to people of color." She also added that “In a lot of these schools the boards are almost all white. They tend to be very white-dominated institutions running pedagogies that are pretty restrictive of children of color.”

“You cannot maintain a system of racial superiority and claim racial intellectual superiority if all the kids get all the resources they need and access to learning. You are taking these parents’ tax dollars and using it to hurt their children,” Duvall-Flynn said. She explained that there are stricter rules that are purposefully designed to victimize people of color. And due to the non-existence of a supervisory mechanism, the Blacks are kicked out of school at the slightest offense.

It is obvious that these charter schools are purposefully created to further marginalize the Black people. It is a system which deserves to be properly scrutinized and managed or totally abolished. Black people also deserve access to quality education.

“Many people are very much against any kind of usage of that term or playing on that term because people’s lives are at stake,” Professor Finnie Coleman condemns Rick Camuglia of Paisano’s restaurant’s act.

Rick Camuglia, owner of the Paisano Restaurant has come under major criticism by the public for his attempt to capitalize on the “Black Lives Matter” symbol and popularity to sell his products. The Mexican restaurant owner has the inscription ‘Black Olives Matter’ printed on caps and T-shirts which he sells for $20 and $25 respectively.

When asked what his intention and motivation was, he said; “It’s just something to do that’s kind of fun now.” Rick Camuglia further stated that he inscribed the phrase on the sign post of the restaurant to advertise his new recipe: a tuna dish with black olive tapenade.

Camuglia’s action has been greeted with much displeasure and wrath by the public. Many have accused him of being insensitive by belittling a movement aimed at ending police brutality against Balck people. Among the critics of this shameful act is the University of New Mexico’s Professor Finnie Coleman. He said, “taken advantage of some discord.” He also added that “Many people are very much against any kind of usage of that term or playing on that term because people’s lives are at stake,” KOAT TV reports.

Restaurant owner Rick Camuglia, center

This is a clear act of irresponsibility and insensitivity on the part of Rick Camuglia. The Black Lives Matter movement is a serious group fighting for a justifiable course hence does not deserve to be trivialized by anyone. It is the lives of people at stake here.

If Paisano’s owner lacks ideas on how to advertise his new venture, he really needs to hire some good and qualified personnel to help him. A thing like this is totally unacceptable. He should be ordered to immediately end this joke!

According to an Associated Press report, a police officer and one other person have been reported injured on the second day of the Milwaukee unrest.

On Monday morning, one person was shot and has since been taken to the hospital for treatment. An officer also got wounded when a rock thrown by protesters broke the windscreen of the squad car, injuring him in the process.

According to reports by CNN, damages caused on Monday were not as extensive as those of the first day of the unrest.

Information by the New York Times indicates that some squad cars have been destroyed since the inception of the confusion with four officers recorded injured and 17 protesters arrested.

But the sister of the deceased, Sherelle Smith has called for calm. She made this call on the public during a night vigil held at the site of the incident on Saturday night. She said; “Don’t bring that violence over here.”

In the meanwhile, the Governor, Scout Walker has requested for the soon release of a video footage of the shooting, AP reports. He further stated that transparency will help calm the aggravated situation. Investigations have since been launched to ascertain the facts of the matter.

Deacon Johnny Winston, the leader of the protesters said; “They jumped out of cars with rifles and billy clubs, We just wanted to get our point across. We just want peace. Why do they always have to react by going to the gun first?”

The American police officers have tagged every Black person as a potential threat hence they don’t care to establish the innocence of their suspects. Too often, their first response to the Black person is to reach for their gun and shoot.

Although it is an established fact that the 23-year-old Black man had a gun in his possession, the findings never said he pointed it at the cop or fired it. The country has laws and a judicial system but if the police will act as the law and judiciary at the same time to execute judgment on suspects, then of what use did we create those systems?

The situation that led to the uprising in Milwaukee is a cumulative grief by the Black community. In a city that is noted to be the worst habitat for Black people, the least that should be added to their problems is the continuous killing of their own people.

Nonetheless, we say “No” to violent protest. But we will continue to stand up for our rights and justice. Black lives really also matter and needed to be treated with dignity.

“I was aware of that, and I had done my own research to find out what was going on between the police and the community, and between the communities themselves,” former Black NYPD Police Chief, Lee Brown recounts how he proficiently handled the famous 1991 Crown Heights riots.

It is estimated that at least one Black person gets gunned down by police every day. Many black people have taken to the street to protest what they call systematic oppression. Not all of these protests have gone smoothly, as the police on many occasions have resorted to using brutal means to stop the protests.

Former Black NYPD Police Chief Lee Brown who handled the crown heights riot that lasted from August 19 to August 21, 1991, was heavily criticized for the way he handled the rioters, but in fact if more Police chiefs were like him, the rising tensions between Black communities and the police would have subsided a little.

The then Black Police Chief, Brown was accused of letting rioters run amok. Many people claimed he intentionally delayed police response to allow the rioting black population in Crown Heights to vent their anger to the detriment of the Jews. But in fact, it was his swift and tactical approach to the problem that stopped what could have engulfed the nation in flames from becoming a national problem.

Despite receiving heavy criticism from both the press, government officials and some members of the community, Lee Brown still defends his decision. He and then-Mayor David Dinkins were present on the scene within minutes of the riots to calm people. They spent the next few days of the riot addressing the complaints of the rioters and strengthening the relationship between the Jews and the African-Americans. America was lucky to have had a man of such integrity in charge of the police force at the time of the riot.

Today many Police chiefs’ approach to controlling protesters is to send out scores of officers armed with full riot gears with the command, “stop them no matter what it takes.” The protests would have reduced, or maybe even stopped, if instead of simply breaking up protests these police departments did more to address the underlying tension between them and the communities.

WI- David Clarke, the Milwaukee County Sheriff who wanted to “eradicate” anti-brutality protesters has requested the Governor for reinforcement.

Barely 24-hours into the confusion which broke out in Milwaukee between the police and African-American residents, Sheriff Clarke has called for the intervention of the National Guard.

His request for reinforcement came as a shock to many after he had promised to use the resources available to him to calm the situation. Clarke’s request was granted by Governor Walker who subsequently, dispatched 125 member Wisconsin National Guard.

Walker issued a statement on Monday saying: “Following a request from Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, and after discussions with Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Adjutant General Donald Dunbar, I have activated the Wisconsin National Guard to be in a position to aid local law enforcement upon request.”

The National Guards are soldiers of a rapid response team who are trained in law enforcement. They are said to be on standby in Milwaukee County and called upon when the need arises.

It is no surprise at all that this move was initiated by Sheriff David Clarke. Clarke is known for his personal dislike for the “Black Lives Matter” group. He has occasionally blamed them for the recent disapproval the police have been subjected to when it comes to brutality cases.

The call for military aid might be a follow-up action to his intention which he made public on August 29th, 2015. during an interview with Fox News; “This slime needs to be eradicated from American society and American culture.”

It seems the police deem the African-American as a race that isn't relevant, hence they do not deserve any form of rights. Instead, of the police authorities engaging in a discord with the protesters so that they both can reach an amicable solution, they rather have put in measures to further intimidate them as usual.

From the look of things, it seems the government is yet to understand that the Black man has rights which he is privileged to enjoy. The use of government agencies to further suppress the aggrieved marginalized group isn’t going to work. We continue to support peaceful protests until our voices are heard and changes made.

“I still have nightmares and panic attacks,” DeEtta Williams, a former inmate narrates her ordeal during her stay in prison.

Prison is hard for even the hardest of criminals. The duty of prison guards is quite unclear in this country. One may normally assume they are there to enforce law and order while they protect the inmates.

However, that doesn’t seem to be the case. In fact, many former inmates have complained that while in prison they were repeatedly abused by correctional officers. For years this abuse has been going on, but no one seems to be interested in fixing the problem.

In female correctional facilities, sexual assault against inmates has become common, and often correctional officers are the culprits. Records show that a lot of the complaints filed by inmates never reach the police, hence, the attempt to get the exact number of rape victims in prison is a nightmare.

Considering the case of 45-year-old DeEtta Williams who was continuously sexually assaulted by a prison guard for 6 months, gives us a horrific picture of life in the prisons. She was abused by one Officer Michael Ewell, who is known to have lengthy records of sexually abusing women.

Moreover, the surprising thing; it became known in the lawsuit that the CDC was fully aware of Ewell’s history of sexually assaulting women. Regardless, they made him supervise a female prison, giving him the chance to carry out his shameful acts on the poor inmates.

Currently, Williams requires daily medication in order to cope with anxiety and panic attacks resulting from sexual abuse. She said, “I still have nightmares and panic attacks. I take medicine twice a day for my anxiety and my post-traumatic stress. I don’t know if it will ever get easier.”

Another abuse of rights shamelessly displayed in the prison can be seen in an event which took place on September 19, 2015. The video that surfaced recently shows how inmate Susie Chavez was inhumanely tortured for having posters in her cell. After she was tased, she started crying in agony, which rather prompted officers to torture her further in an attempt to keep her quiet. Authorities have defended this by saying that the officers broke no laws. It is an obvious fact that the laws detailing the enforcement of force in prison are especially vague.

Obviously, inmates in prison cannot fight for their rights, as the system in place has robbed them of any which they might have had. In many of these cases, prison wardens are aware, and often condone the inhumane treatment of inmates, making life in prison exceptionally unbearable.

Are the laws governing the conduct of correctional officers intentionally vague? Is the government’s reluctance to deal with the problem tacit approval? Given how much our country spends on prisons, things like these should not happen. We urge the government to find ways to rectify this growing scourge. We recommend there be more strict laws governing the conduct of correctional officers, and stricter punishment for those who break these laws.

Amidst the racial tensions in the country, there has been a steady increase in the number of people calling for any pro-Black organization to be labeled as a terrorist group.

We are made to believe that Blacks commit the most crimes in the country, even though they comprise only about 13% of the population. This is often the argument thrown around to justify the clearly different mindset the police apply to policing black neighborhoods. An article written by Mac Donald for The Wall Street Journal used this precise argument to justify why officers more quickly resort to lethal force to subjugate black people in such neighborhoods.

Black people have been criminalized. The famous saying “innocent until proven guilty” does not apply to the black race. In most cases, it is guilty until proven innocent.

Groups such as the Black Panther Party sprung up to defend the lives that the country seems reluctant to protect. Often people confuse the purpose of groups like this, tagging them as racists groups out to instigate a war against White people. The mainstream media is greatly responsible for this erroneous picture of the Black Panther Party. They have purposefully created the impression among many that the group is up for violence.

This negative reportage has been discredited severally by the group and the way they handle issues. Rather, what the nation is faced with is a war against Black people and not by Black people because they are the ones being killed.

The Black Panther Party have made it abundantly clear on multiple occasions that they are out to fight against the systematic oppression of the Black population. The group is there to protect and defend the Black man against further inhuman treatment.

Throughout the history of America, Black people have been oppressed in one form or the other. What a lot of people call equality now is merely an illusion.

The war on Black people simply took a different form. Initially, Black people were made synonymous with crime, and then a war was waged on crime. The disproportionate arrest rates prove the prejudice the police hold against Black people.

Black Panther Party is a peaceful group fighting for justice and equality for the marginalized Black people.

BlackMattersUs held an inspirational event in New York dedicated to the second anniversary of Michael Brown death.

The meeting in remembrance of the second anniversary of Michael Brown’s death, African American teen, brutally murdered by police, was held on the Union Square, New York city, August 13. Despite some disturbing factors such as strong heat, the event was kept at a high level.

Due to the proper organization and accurate communications with attendees, the event on Union Square successfully gathered a group of activists who share the same views and ideas.

Among the participants of the meetup, there were some key members of such organizations as Black Lives Matter: NYC, BLACK Action United Organizations, Socialist Alternative, New Yorkers Against Bratton, Eric Garner family members (the previous event in New York was dedicated to Eric Garner) and the candidate for City Council District 36, New York.

All the claimed speakers held inspirational speeches calling for the event participants and New York residents not to be indifferent when police brutality cases against the Black nation accrue. People brought signs with Michael Brown name and chanted “Being black is not a crime”, “Hands up don’t shoot” and so on. Some of the bystanders inspired by the meeting joined it and even held speeches.

“Either they’re going to get me in trouble, or they’re going to kill me … I’m just trying to avoid them. I can’t take it anymore,” Dale James said.

Police have repeatedly stopped Dale James for about 16 years now. The victim, Dale resolved to stay in his cramped apartment on Wilson Avenue, near Bathurst Street in Toronto, Ontario, in order to stay away from regular police stops.

In a much more audible voice, he lamented the conduct of cops and said, “Either they’re going to get me in trouble or they’re going to kill me… I’m just trying to avoid them. I can’t take it anymore.”

Shocking to know, Dale has had 43 encounters with Toronto police from April 2006 to November 2015. They were gleaned from multiple freedom-of-information requests he made. He believes there are many more and says he is appealing to Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commissioner.

In a statement of claim filed in 2015, Dale and his brother seek $2.2 million in damages, alleging an assault on James, racial profiling, arbitrary detention and search of James outside their apartment. They further allege police are “terrorizing” the entire family and have caused mental distress.

The life of the Black man was destroyed because of racial stops by police. The whole family is feeling stressed because of this.

This news clearly shows that the problem of racial discrimination and excessive force against Blacks exists in all the countries where people of color live side by side with white citizens. Sometimes, it feels like police try to weaken the Black community so people feel devastated and worthless. That's why the Black Lives Matter movement successfully acts not only in the U.S. but also abroad. For example, the Canadian branch of BLM is a very strong organization that helps all Black brothers and sisters unite against systematic racism and profiling.

A new study found that despite having a similar rate of mental health problems as white students, Black students are less likely to receive proper mental health treatment.

The ‘menace’ called racism has found its head in the area of healthcare in America. It is more disheartening to note that it affects a sensitive aspect of the health system - mental health. With a number of rising mental health issues, a racial element has been found to be the basis upon which Blacks are given less mental health attention.

To further substantiate the claim of racism in mental health care, Dr. Lyndonna Marrast, formerly of the Harvard Medical School, conducted an intensive research. Data for the research is based on information taken from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey in which all the 50 states in America between the years of 2006 and 2012. The researchers examined the data of children aged under-18 and young adults aged between 18 and 34.

The findings showed that Blacks made 49 percent fewer visits to psychiatrists as compared to white children. When it came to visiting mental health professionals, the number comes down to 47 percent. The findings are no different from that of the adults when surveyed.

Indeed, in this country to be a mentally ill Black or Hispanic is not an easy task. And the Black children experience the injustice of school system even at pre-school. Rather, Blacks are to be given better mental health care but that hasn’t been the case.

The health sector of America is a really biased one that favors only the ‘white-skinned’ folks. This is so unfair to humanity. The study showed that minorities while being vastly overrepresented in the criminal justice system, were underrepresented when it came to receiving mental health treatment.

Solidarity among Blacks and Latinos can change the inhumane system

It may seem to be very obvious to the entire world that slavery and the annihilation of Blacks in America have ended or reduced to its lowest ebb. Unfortunately, that isn't the case because slavery against humanity still exists in the United States.

There have been extensive and reckless murders of Blacks in America over the past years and to date. The murdering of African -Americans seems to be normal. Nothing realistic has been done to show the disapproval of the state in the senseless murder of Blacks.

Anti-Blackness, a notable system that eludes Blacks as the replica of death and humiliation has seen many Blacks slaughtered like sheep by cops. There hasn't been any ideal policy to control this cruel system which equates Black life to death.

Unequivocally, African-Americans have been rendered a non-human status and our lives haven’t been insured against terror or injustice. Alas, the animals in America today have been insured and documented. Undocumented Blacks are not regarded as humans and do not exist.

Black and Latino communities are not protected by the common laws of America. Persons in such communities are regarded and treated as second class humans whose lives are not worth protecting. There is unemployment, poverty, mass incarceration, detention, and reckless murder, and poor health delivery, high illiteracy among others in all Black and Latino communities and this has seen no redress. There must be an ideal anti-Blackness policy that will seek to address all the humiliation meted on Blacks and Latinos.

This policy should be made legal and binding. Institutions should be charged with the duty to carry out the anti-Blackness policy. The lives of Blacks must be protected and respected. At least history has demonstrated that Blacks and Latinos have played a significant role in building America. This suggests that all persons must be given equal opportunities and treatment in America.

We further ask for unflinching unity and support among all Blacks and Latinos. The only way we can see changes is when we all push for the enactment of binding laws that will seek to protect the lives of all Americans irrespective of color and origin.

Institutions must be charged to carry out their responsibilities for the protection of the lives of all people. We must be politically active to send a nerve to the spine of the political institutions in America that Black Lives Matter and must be protected at all costs.

We must change the ugly system that just relates Black lives with death. We must be united in this struggle, let’s put all hands on deck in solidarity for the Black Lives Matter struggle.
