‘I Am White, You Should Be, Too’

Taylor Armbrester, 10, has been consistently punched, kicked and called demeaning names by bullies at Chelsea Park Elementary School.

A 10-year-old Black student at Chelsea Park Elementary in Birmingham, Alabama had to face assaults and harassment by white students, according to Alabama.com. Teachers did nothing.

Taylor Armbrester, 10, and his family moved into the area in the fall. Soon, Taylor found out that Chelsea Park Elementary has 883 students and only 88 students are Black. Being new and Black, Taylor, soon became a victim of bullying by white students. He was abused both verbally and physically.

“Roses are red, violets are blue, I am white, you should be too. Roses are red, violets are blue, I am white, why aren’t you? Roses are red, violets are blue, God made me pretty, what happened to you?” classmates were chanting to Taylor.

One boy accused Taylor of stealing a fidget spinner and then punched him in the face. “He lost it out of his book bag,” Taylor explained.

Classmates called him “black boy” and “retarded.”

Another white female student, who Taylor thought was has friend, threw a ball at him with the force that broke his finger. His mother had to take him to the emergency room.

Waht is worst of all, the school officials refuse to admit the existence of the problem and take measures. Assistant Principal Mary Anderson and the counselor met with Taylor and his mother Friday and said there is not a problem with racial bullying at the school. Looks like the school chose to use the old “isolated incident” excuse rather than accept and deal with the problem.

Armbrester’s mother has yet to reveal if she will sue the school for the harassment that her son faced due to racism.
