A Talladega cop, Joel Husk shared two racist posts on his Facebook page, one of them making a racial ridicule of the first lady, Michelle Obama.
Talladega cop, Officer Joel Husk was relieved of duty after Husk shared two racially charged posts, Talladega City Manager Patrick Bryant said. The first post was from the “Last American Patriots” Facebook page and read, “Over 620,000 white people died to free black slaves and still to this day not even 1 thank you.”

The second post by the Talladega cop was shared from a Facebook page titled “Donald Trump, the Political Movement.” It showed a picture of incoming first lady Melania Trump with the caption “fluent in Slovenian, English, French, Serbian and German” beside a picture of first lady Michelle Obama with the caption “fluent In ghetto,” Talladega’s Daily Home newspaper reported.
The TPD responded in a statement saying it would not tolerate such conduct by any employee, adding that it takes seriously its responsibility to treat every person equally.
These posts have either been taken down or are not visible to those who are not “friends” on the social networking site, according to the Daily Home report.
The Daily Home attempted to reach Husk for comment through Facebook but had not received a response as of Wednesday night.
Bryant said his decision to terminate the officer was based on a long-standing policy of the Talladega Police Department.
“We will not tolerate that kind of conduct by any employees,” he said. “We take very seriously our responsibility to treat everyone equally and equitably … We have to make sure we take steps for the community to trust us.”
For the police especially, they have to guarantee the rights of everyone, regardless of race, creed, gender, religion, etc. Any time someone makes a statement like that that is biased, insensitive or derogatory, that reflects negatively on the department and all agencies of the city.
“Our responsibility is to our residents, to provide service to everyone. That especially includes law enforcement. The community trusts them to provide a vital service fairly. If a comment or post reflects a level of bias that says they cannot provide that service fairly, then we have to act.”
“I can’t control the actions of every employee, but I can uphold the standards that make us all proud of what we do every day.”
The Talladega cop racist comment is an addition to several others which happened in recent times. These incidences thereby further establish the long known fact that most law enforcement officers are racists; and that is the reason they always descend heavily on Black people even in the most undemanding situation. Their hatred for Black people is the rationale behind the rampant use of lethal force when not needed. The question is; how did such people find themselves in the police service? It is good he has been fired but termination shouldn’t be the only punishment for acts of racism. There should be a stiffer penalty for racist.
