Man Hurls Racial Slurs At Boy, Attacks Dad

57-year-old Utah man, Mark Olic Porter, finds himself in the grips of the law for yelling racial slurs at his neighbor’s son and attacking the dad with a stun cane.

DRAPER — A Draper man hurled  racial slurs at a neighbor boy, then attacked his father with a “stun cane” in a confrontation over his comments, charges filed Monday allege, KSL reports.

Mark Olic Porter, 57, faces a third-degree felony aggravated assault charge in 3rd District Court for allegedly attacking a neighbor who had come to the defense of his son after overhearing a confrontation Nov. 3 at 169 E. Wasatch Point Lane.

Porter also is charged with class A misdemeanor assault against a police officer; interference with an arresting officer, a class B misdemeanor; and intoxication, a class C misdemeanor, in connection with the case.

A witness told police she heard Porter “loudly making racial slurs to another neighbor’s child,” according to court documents.

The child’s father … approached and told Porter not to speak like that to his son,” charges state. “Porter then hit (the man) with something and it sounded like (he) was being shocked. (The man) was thrown backward onto the sidewalk.”

The boy’s dad later told police he heard Porter shouting “get out of here (N-word)” to his son, “who was riding his scooter in a common area” of an apartment complex, court documents say.

(The man said he) told Porter not to yell at his son. Porter then reached over the railing and hit (the man) with a stun cane,” charges state.

The man later reported he received a shock from the object, but was able to wrestle it away from Porter.

Police officers were called to the scene, and said Porter then claimed that the neighbor he attacked had stolen his cane, The Root stated. A Draper officer said that Porter “smelled of alcohol.”

The older man then struggled with two Draper police officers, knocking off a female officer’s body camera and elbowing her, reports.

Porter continued to yell at officers and threatened to defecate while in the back of the patrol car, which he did,” the charges read.

Stun canes are walking sticks that double as stun guns, such as a $75 Zap model on Amazon, reported by Daily News. “Zap Self Defense Cane with Flashlight with Carrying Case! They’ll Think It Is Just a Cane Until It Is Too Late,” the marketplace website entry says.

Police said Porter later fought two officers, elbowing one of them and knocking off her body camera. They got him into a squad car, but he kept hollering, according to police. He threatened to make a bowel movement inside the car and followed through on the threat, investigators said.

He faces charges of third-degree felony aggravated assault, assault against a police officer, interference with an arresting officer and intoxication. He has bailed out of the Salt Lake County jail, the TV station reported.

Utah man, Mark Olic Porter, has only himself to blame for being slapped with charges of third-degree felony aggravated assault. Yelling racial slurs at anyone is not too good but targeting a boy young enough to be his own son is just horrible! He might have killed him! Porter deserves to pay the full penalty for action so as to serve as a deterrent for others too. Racial abuse in our society is becoming a new fashion. We will continually fight against racism.
