Ben & Jerry’s Pledges Support For Black Lives Matter

Black Lives Matter continues to gain grounds as they push the agenda for equal justice and an end to police brutality against Blacks.

Owners of the Vermont –based creamery company, Ben & Jerry’s have rally support behind the Black Lives Matter movement. The ice cream makers on Thursday took to their twitter account to pledge their support for the Black Lives Matter group.

The tweet on the company’s official twitter account read, “Black Lives Matter. Choosing to be silent in the face of such injustice is not an option.”  They further backed their decision by writing on the issue of systematic and institutionalized racism.

It was written, “Systemic and institutionalized racism are the defining civil rights and social justice issues of our time.” It further continued by saying that “We’ve come to understand that to be silent about the violence and threats to the lives and well-being of Black people is to be complicit in that violence and those threats.”

The statement released by Ben & Jerry’s mentioned that it has become unbearably difficult for them to just observe from the sidelines the atrocities of the Black people in America. Therefore, their decision to take a stand for to support Black lives and justice.

Moreover, the statement added that in supporting Black lives Matter doesn’t mean they are against the law enforcement. They also called for equal justice to be served to all and not just a section of the population. And also spoke against racism to Black people.

The tweet has since then been like by over 65,000 people. The news seems to have been welcomed by a lot of people who stand for equal justice. Many also took to their social media page to make comments; commending the ice cream makers for their firm stand in times when it is most needed.

The gesture by Ben & Jerry’s is highly recommended. It is actually worth emulating, especially in times like this when people are not bold enough to stand for the right course. As Ben and Jerry rightly mentioned in their statement, all lives do matter but not until Black lives matter.
