Residents Of Maine Call For Resignation Of Racist Governor

“I find it disturbing how much bad press Maine has gotten due to the leadership. It’s been going on for six and a half years, and enough is enough,” Joanne Rosenthal expressed his frustration about the situation in an interview with WCSH.

Paul LePage, the governor of Maine has come under series of criticisms regarding misconduct and the use of racial comments. Residents of Maine seem to be fed up with the 6 and a half years governance of LePage and have called for his resignation.

But on Wednesday, the defiant Gov. LePage stated that he wasn’t going to vacate his position, The Boston Globe reports. LePage has been heavily lashed by both citizens and his own fellow Republicans for making some irresponsible statements which had racial implications. The stubborn governor made racist comments about Black and Hispanic men from New York City and Connecticut. He also accused them of trafficking illegal drugs into his state and impregnating the young white girls in the state.

Moreover, a voicemail recording by LePage to Drew Gattine, the Democratic state Representative revealed that he used some profane insults on Gattine. The governor had previously accused Drew Gattine of calling him a racist, hence, the reason for his act. The Wednesday meeting between the two which many thought will calm tensions rather aggravated the quarrel between them.

It seems the patience of the residents had finally run out as hundreds of people assembled at the State House to protest. The demonstrators called upon the governor to either resign or have a medical treatment, WCSH-TV reports.

“I find it disturbing how much bad press Maine has gotten due to the leadership. It’s been going on for six and a half years, and enough is enough,” Joanne Rosenthal told WCSH.according to Besty Sweet, the organizer of the protest, this isn’t the final one. She said they are planning the next demonstration soon where they will present their petition to the state legislature.

Meanwhile, LePage dismissed that he needs professional help, he said he would rather seek spiritual assistance for his family. He has also sworn not to speak to any media. A racist isn’t fit for any position, regardless of what responsibilities it comes with. We cannot afford to keep such people at the helm of national affairs; it is too costly! The Maine governor needs to do the honorable thing by stepping down since the people who put him there do not want him anymore. He needs to respect their decision. We need to continue fighting for our rights and remove racist authorities from their positions.
