Former New York Mayor Blasts Beyoncé’s VMAs Performance

“I have saved more Black lives than any of those people you saw on stage,” Rudy Giuliani said.

Beyoncé gave a wonderful performance at the VMAs on Sunday night, whereby using lights and choreography she made a bold statement on police brutality against Blacks in America. However, the concert wasn’t appreciated by some, for example, the former NY mayor, Rudy Giuliani, who criticized the formation of the singer’s show.

Rudy Giuliani was on “Fox and Friends,” a Fox News talk show when he was asked about his thoughts concerning Beyoncé’s performance at the VMAs. His response was not full of delight.

“You’re asking the wrong person because I had five uncles who were police officers, two cousins who were, and one who died in the line of duty. I ran the largest and best police department in the world, the New York City Police Department.

And I saved more Black lives than any of those people you saw on stage by reducing crime and particularly homicide by 75 percent.”

This isn’t the first time when Giuliani has directed dissent towards the Grammy winner. He previously condemned the star’s performance at the Super Bowl 50, where she and her dancers wore Black Panther-style berets and seemed to promote “black power.”

“This is football, not Hollywood, and I thought it was really outrageous that she used it as a platform to attack officers who are the people who protect her and protect us, keep us alive,” he said.

It’s either the mayor has decided to turn a blind eye to the problems Blacks face in this country or he is completely ignorant. It’s a shame that he actually thinks his statements make sense. History does not remember Giuliani as a person, who actively defended the rights of the minorities and arranged the long-awaited police reform.

So, he has no right to even utter his name next to the famous Beyonce and Jay-Z, who repeatedly donated money to activists and supported the struggle against police brutality. These politicians should get their heads out of the sand and start solving the problems, instead of making all sorts of bogus statements on TV.
