Black Athlete Becomes Most Decorated Woman In America’s Track And Field History

Allyson Felix, who led the U.S. women’s 4x400-meter relay team to victory on Saturday night, became the most decorated U.S. track and field athlete after winning her sixth gold medal.

Allyson Felix, 30, who ran as the anchor of the relay team, helped her team win the ultimate prize just twenty-four hours after making history by winning her fifth gold medal in track and field, making her the most decorated in U.S history. The gold medal was the U.S. sixth straight in the 4×400 event.

Felix won her first medal at the age of 18 at the 2004 Olympics Games in Athens, which was a silver medal after finishing behind Jamaica’s Veronica Campbell-Brown in the 200-meter race. She won her first gold medal with the 4×400 meter relay team at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and won her first individual gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, as she beat Shelly-Ann Fraser-Price and Carmelita Jeter in the 200-meter race, respectively, with a time of 21.88 seconds. America’s most beloved female sprinter amassed a total of six gold medals, leaving her just behind swimmer Jenny Thompson’s eight gold medals in the list of America’s most successful women in the Olympics.

Apart from Felix, we have had a lot of other Black women who won their prizes during these Olympics, Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Simone Manuel and others. One of those champions is Allyson Felix who has stamped her name down in the history books and made our nation proud. Another person that has done herself and her nation proud is Claressa Shields, after winning her second Gold medal in Boxing. The middleweight boxer defended her title today to become the first American boxer in 112 years to win two Olympic gold medals. Shields said after her victory,”I want to let it be known that I’m not just a great female boxer, but I’m one of the great boxers to ever live.” It is great that now the whole world can see our powerful and amazing Black women; we can demonstrate that we are built for something to be admired and honored.
