Court Orders Kendrick Johnson’s Parents To Pay $10M In Legal Fees

Kenneth and Jackie Johnson took another loss in the pursuit of justice for the death of their son, as the court has ordered them to reimburse all the defendants named in their case for the death of their son.

It was on January 11th, 2013 that Kendrick was found dead in the gymnasium of Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Georgia. A mat was wrapped around his body and an official autopsy report ruled his death accidental. Supposedly he died of asphyxiation after getting entangled in the mat. Kendrick Johnson was 17 at the time of his death.

His parents found that story mindboggling. They accused the state police department of covering up the true nature of their son’s death and requested for a private autopsy which revealed that their son had died from blunt force trauma.

The two primary suspects in the teen’s death were Brain and Brandon Bell, the sons of Rick Bell who is an FBI agent. This simple fact makes the Johnsons’ cover up version pretty convincing. The Johnsons claim that Brain held a grudge against Kendrick. It has been an uphill battle ever since the death of their son to bring those responsible to justice.

In a new and saddening turn of events, after the Johnsons dropped the $100 million wrongful death lawsuit against the Bells and the Lowndes County Board of Education, its superintendent and the school principal, a court has ordered them to pay the legal fees of those they accused in their lawsuit.

It is sad, as it appears the parents of Kendrick Johnson are being punished for simply pursuing justice for their son. The court upheld the initial ruling that stipulated the death of their son was an accident. Moreover, the state department of justice has said there will be no criminal charges filed against anybody for his death, as there is no evidence to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Kendrick was murdered.

This simply put is a cover up. If it had been a White boy in that mat, there would have been a massive manhunt for those responsible. But police in Valdosta have been very reluctant to do anything slightly close to finding those responsible. And so it looks like the killer of another young Black boy will walk away with his freedom intact again. It is becoming apparent that the justice system in the US is against Black people, and that can’t be allowed to remain so anymore.
