Jay Z’s Tidal is set to disburse $1.5M to local and national social justice organizations.
A charity concert which was held in October at Brooklyn, N.Y.’s Barclay Center, was billed as a fundraiser to support several nonprofit social justice organizations.
The Tidal X: 10/20 charity concert featured Jay Z, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Beyoncé, Meek Mill, and, T.I., among others.
Due to a unanimous decision taken by Tidal’s group of artist-owners, some of the nonprofit organizations include Sankofa.org, and Opportunity Agenda, in addition to local grassroots groups like Hands Up United, in Ferguson, Mo., the Black Youth Project 100 in Chicago, the Ohio Students Association, the Baltimore Justice Fund, among others.
According to a statement issued on Friday, donations will also be given to organizations created by the families of victims of police brutality.
Some of these include Trayvon Martin Foundation, the Michael O.D. Brown We Love Ours Sons and Daughters Foundation and the Oscar Grant Foundation.
The move by the Tidal group has been commended as it has undoubtedly become expedient to support and promote justice, fairness and accountability at all times and in all places.
